Fight With Pink

For the third year in a row, a few DWC’ers joined together to volunteer at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. This year, Accounting Specialist, Lisa Chisman, Accounts Receivable Specialist, Kaylee Fox and Director of Operations, Tyler Waggoner were part of the crew who reached out to lend a helping hand.

This is Lisa’s third time volunteering at the event. She oversaw the donation station, where people could make monetary donations to support cancer research studies, crucial patient care programs, and education and prevention initiatives. The American Cancer Society collected $250,000 from this event. For Lisa, this is more than just a day of volunteering. It’s a day to share strength and show support. “I love seeing survivors smiling with their family, friends and furry friends! Everyone is always so energetic,” said Lisa.

It was Kaylee’s first time volunteering for the Making Strides annual walk and she could feel it too. “Everywhere you look, there is a smile. You are just surrounded by positive energy.” She and her boyfriend, Brendan, were in charge of checking in walkers before the start of the event. This gave Kaylee the opportunity to talk to survivors, fighters and supporters, even though it was a busy morning with 5,000 walkers to check in.

For Tyler and his wife, Madison, it was the second year volunteering at the Making Strides walk-a-thon. They both attend three to four volunteer events a year geared towards breast cancer awareness. Tyler’s mom is a twenty-year breast cancer survivor, and ever since he was a kid, he remembers going to events like Making Strides. “It’s all about Giving Back, A Lot and getting involved,” said Tyler.

If you want to get involved, The American Cancer Society is always looking for volunteers for their events. Find an event in your area today.
